About Us
Music Together® is a music and movement approach to early childhood music development for infant, toddler, preschool, and kindergarten children and their parents, teachers, and other primary caregivers. Originally offered to the public in 1987, it pioneered the concept of a research-based, developmentally appropriate early childhood music curriculum that strongly emphasizes and facilitates adult involvement. The Music Together approach develops every child's birthright of basic music competence by encouraging the actual experiencing of music rather than the learning of concepts or information about music. It began as an educational project of the Center for Music and Young Children (CMYC) in Princeton, New Jersey and is now being taught internationally.
The Music Together repertoire has been compiled into nine Song Collections. Each collection contains approximately 30 songs, chants, dances, and instrument play-along selections. The presented materials consist of well-arranged traditional folk songs, chants, and dances from many different cultures and countries, as well as originally written musical pieces. There are nine complete collections of music, three per year -- a wealth of music for your family.
Our Teacher:
Clare has been involved in music since her early childhood. She studied piano following the Royal Conservatory curriculum and also studied flute privately. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of British Columbia. Her lifelong love of music led her to want to share the joy of music with others. A soft spot for children led her to Music Together as an avenue to share music with children. She has been a registered Music Together teacher for three years and has been awarded Music Together Certification Level I status, having demonstrated outstanding achievement in teaching, musicianship, program philosophy, and parent education.
A mother of two, Clare has been involved in Music Together as a parent for over seven years. She has seen, and continues to see, the musical growth of her own children and enjoys watching other children reach their own musical milestones. Making music with children is important to Clare and is something that has been woven into her daily life since her children were born. She hopes that you will also discover the joy that music can bring to your life and experience for yourself the thrill of watching your child take their first musical steps.
